Exclusively on your device, in an AES-256-encrypted container. There is no cloud synchronization – nobody but you can access your data, not even us as the developers.

Because your data is encrypted only locally on your device, nobody but you has access. Without the master password or the correct hint question, the data cannot be recovered.

Precautions against data loss:

• Set up a hint question right after the initial setup – your only recovery path
• Additionally create an emergency PDF with its own password and keep the printout in a safe place (a safe, a trusted person)
• Choose a different password for the emergency PDF than your master password

1. Open the archiving feature in the app (icon at the bottom left of the vault list).
2. Enter an archive password at the top that you can remember well.
3. Tap CREATE ARCHIVE and choose a destination (cloud, USB stick, share by email to yourself).
4. On the new device: install MyLocalSafe, go through the setup and select the ZIP file at the "Bring your data" step.
5. Enter the archive password – your entries, photos and documents are immediately available.

Note: biometrics must be set up again on the new device, which is normal for security reasons. The master password and hint question are taken over from the archive.

1. Check in the Android settings whether "MyLocalSafe" is active as the Autofill service.
2. Important for Chrome: go to Chrome → Settings → Autofill services and enable "Autofill using another service".
3. Check whether battery optimization is disabled for MyLocalSafe.
4. Briefly disable and re-enable the service in the Android settings if it does not respond.

For particularly sensitive actions – such as creating an archive, exporting an emergency PDF or importing an archive – the app additionally asks for your identity. On devices with biometrics this happens via fingerprint; without biometrics via the master password.

The reason: even if your phone is unlocked and someone had brief access, such actions should not be possible unnoticed. This is a deliberate protective measure.

For security reasons, the previous biometric link is then deleted. At your next login you need your master password once, after which you can set up biometrics again as usual. This prevents newly added fingerprints from gaining unwanted access.

60 seconds. After that, the app clears the password automatically – even if you have closed the app in the meantime or switched to another app.

Two exceptions:

• If you copy something else in the meantime, the new content is kept
• On Android 13 and newer, the copied content is additionally marked as "sensitive" in the clipboard preview and not shown in plain text

Some devices (especially older or very inexpensive ones) do not have a specialized security chip for key management. The app still works on these devices, but the keys are then held in software storage.

This is sufficient for everyday use, but offers less protection against advanced attacks. You can check at any time what protection your device offers: Settings → App info → "Hardware encryption: Check".

Make sure the CSV file follows the required format:

• Semicolon-separated fields
• Column order: Title; User; Password; Website; Notes; 2FA
• The first row is skipped as a header row
• Passwords with special characters (such as ; , ") should be placed in quotation marks: "Pa;ss;word"
